Steelcraft Ltd has hired its second fabrication and welding apprentice with the support of DurhamWorks and Derwentside College. The apprentices support the firm’s skilled fabricators, improving the business’ overall productivity whilst the individuals learn all of the practical skills on the way to becoming fully-fledged fabricators themselves. 19-year-old Mark Hodgson joined the company in February after a period of voluntary work experience in January.
Matthew Rodgers, Managing Director, said: “There is a severe lack of skilled labour in our sector and, as employers, we have to accept that training from within is the best solution for such specialist roles. After the great success achieved with Samuel Read, an apprentice who joined us in summer last year, we decided that a second apprentice would further strengthen our long-term labour pool.
