Stand out by showing up: James Ibbitson’s top video tips

Video is one of the most powerful ways to build your brand, connect with your audience, and support your sales funnel, when done with intention.

James Ibbitson, videographer at Visual Punch, shares his top practical tips for creating video content.

Be consistent
Show up regularly. A steady presence builds trust, credibility, and recognition over time. Whether you’re posting daily or weekly, having a consistent schedule keeps you visible and strengthens your relationship with your audience.

Batch your content
Set aside time to record multiple videos in one session. This saves time, helps you stay consistent, and allows for better planning.

You don’t need fancy equipment to get started. Use a tripod or simply prop your phone on a stack of books. Good lighting and clear sound matter more than a high-end camera.

Base your content on the customer journey
Align your videos with key stages of the customer buying journey: awareness, decision-making, and post-purchase. Think about what your customer needs to hear at each step and use your videos to solve problems and build confidence.

Don’t overthink your delivery; keep it conversational. Reading off a script word-for-word can make it harder to connect.

Tailor your content to each platform
You need the right content, for the right people, in the right places. Each platform has its own style, so adapt accordingly. Adjust the format, length, and tone depending on where you’re sharing. What works on LinkedIn may not work on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, or YouTube. Pick two or three platforms where your audience is most active and double down on those.

Video one of the most powerful ways to build a brand, create connection, and support sales, when done with intention and consistency. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just purposeful. Keep it simple and focus on helping your audience.
