Age UK County Durham hails £8 million benefits achievement
Age UK County Durham secured millions of pounds’ worth of unclaimed allowances and benefits for people aged 50 and over across the county in its last financial year.
Officials say the work has “helped alleviate people’s money worries.”
According to latest figures, the charity’s County Durham information and advice team secured £8,001,860 in benefits between April 2024 and March 2025.
The figure included unclaimed attendance allowance, personal independence payments, pension credit, housing benefit and council tax reductions.
Sharon Vasey, manager of the information and advice team, said: “We help clients claim what they are entitled to, so they can live their lives independently and without worry. The extra money goes a long way, and our team is here to provide those aged 50 and over with any advice and support required. We regularly hear service users are not sure how the benefit system works, so we’re really glad they pick up the phone to ask for help.”
