Children’s charity volunteer appeal

A children’s charity in Pelton, near Chester-Le-Street, has issued an appeal for volunteers for the coming year.

Heel & Toe is the only charity in the North East to provide free Conductive Education therapy and subsidised therapies to children with physical disabilities and complex needs and is looking for volunteers to help with its series of events through the year.

As part of its fundraising drive, the charity runs events including an annual ball, golf days, bike rides, walks, and bingo nights. There are also options to fundraise independently as well as corporate sponsorship packages.

Mandy Hammond, Community Fundraiser, said: “We’ve got an exciting calendar of events this year and all businesses, individuals, and groups are welcome to help us with a variety of tasks including selling raffle tickets, assisting with auctions, running stalls, doing store bucket collections, as well as raising awareness of Heel & Toe.

“As we don’t receive any government funding, we rely on donations, fundraising activities, and grants to pay for the therapy hundreds of children with physical disabilities and complex needs from across the region need so much.

“Therapy includes conductive education, massage therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy from our main centre in Pelton. Our second therapy centre is the Hydrotherapy pool, based in Perkinsville.”

The charity is also keen for businesses and individuals to run their own fundraising events or raise sponsorship through community events including the Great North Run, Total Warrior, and The Yorkshire Five Peaks challenge.

Corporate packages include activities like fundraising in the workplace, monthly payroll donations, and sponsoring T-shirts.

Mandy added: “We are immensely grateful to the hundreds of wonderful people that volunteer with us, as well as fundraising by challenging themselves to run, swim, walk or even jump out of planes for us each year. Our volunteers always have a great time, as well as helping to raise money to support children across the North East.”
