Co-op wellbeing day for Stoptober

The Co-op and Business Durham hosted a wellbeing day in the lead up to this year’s Stoptober campaign, which reminds people of the risks of smoking and the benefits of stopping.

Held on Tuesday 26 September, the event took place at the Co-operative Food Supply Chain Logistics warehouse on the Drum Industrial Estate.

The day saw Co-op colleagues and people from businesses based on the Drum Industrial Estate take part in wellbeing checks, find out about the dangers of smoking, and get support to stop.

Support and advice were also available on alcohol and drug use, healthy eating, and mental wellness to help individuals, teams, and organisations become healthier, happier, and more resilient.

Sarah Skillen, Engagement Coordinator at the Co-op organised the day. She said: “It’s never too late to quit smoking; that’s the message in the run up to Stoptober and we encourage anyone who smokes to give quitting a go.

“It is fantastic to have so much involvement from Business Durham and employers from the Drum Industrial Estate. The support of your employer and colleagues will make a huge difference to help people make changes for a healthier lifestyle.”

Stoptober is a 28-day initiative from Public Health England, which is backed by Fresh and encourages the North East’s 460,000 smokers to make a quit attempt, starting on 1 October. To register go to smokefree.nhs.uk/Stoptober
