Durham food bank calls for volunteers for Tesco Winter Collection

Durham Food Bank is looking for volunteers to help with its Tesco Winter Collection 2025. It will run from 27 to 29 November at Tesco stores in Chester-le-Street, Durham Gilesgate, and Newton Aycliffe.

Volunteers can help for as little as two hours between 9am and 4pm. Tasks include greeting customers, giving out shopping lists, sorting donated food, and thanking shoppers.

County Durham Foodbank is part of the Durham Christian Partnership and the Trussell Trust network. They provide emergency food and practical support to people in crisis.

Fiona Pallister, Fundraiser at Durham Christian Partnership, said: “Volunteers are essential in collecting food for families and individuals facing hardship this winter. Just a few hours of time can make a big difference.”

Each person helped at the food banks receives three days’ worth of food along with guidance to local services that can help them rebuild and recover. The foodbank’s goal is to ensure that no one in County Durham or Sunderland goes hungry.
