Employers encouraged to support T Level students through work placements

Derwentside College is inviting local employers to offer work experience placements to T Level students.

The placements run for 45 days and are spread across the remainder of the students’ course. There is no cost to the employer.

The students are studying in three specialist areas: Building Services Engineering for Construction with Electrical Installation, Engineering Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing, and Digital Software Development.

As part of their studies, they are building strong practical skills that can benefit a wide range of businesses. These include work in electrical systems, construction support, CAD and design processes, project planning, manufacturing, IT troubleshooting, and both web and software development.

Many also have experience with office-based tasks that could support day-to-day business operations.

While these programmes are focused on engineering and digital skills, students can offer valuable contributions to businesses across many sectors. Even organisations outside of these industries may find students can help improve workflow or take on routine tasks.

Placements can also be flexible, with students able to work remotely or in a hybrid format if needed.

There is no financial cost to the employer, as the work experience is unpaid.

Most placements take place one day per week during term time, with the option of additional days or block placements during school holidays.

There is no long-term commitment, and businesses are free to withdraw from the placement at any time should their circumstances change.

In addition to receiving practical support, employers can demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility by helping prepare young people for the world of work.

Derwentside College is encouraging businesses to get in touch for a no-obligation conversation. Employers can secure a placement before the end of the academic year or register their interest for the September intake.
