ITPS celebrates software developer success

Josh Cairns joined Tech expert ITPS based on the Drum Industrial Estate, as a Graduate Cloud Engineer.

He was armed with a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Computer Science, and previous experience in tech support and case handler positions.

While enjoying his initial role, Josh became keen to develop his career by moving into a new position that was closer to his talent for software development, and a better match for his skills and interests.

ITPS pull out all the stops to support their people in their career ambitions, and after discussions with his line manager they identified an opportunity within a new multi-disciplinary team.

The team was being created to develop a bespoke Marketplace portal to take the pain out of license management. It allows customers to buy new licences, add additional licences to existing subscriptions, assign and revoke licenses, get information about the secure score for their organisation, and request our help with any recommendations that pop up.

Josh plays a key role in the team, which is also developing an internal portal that the operations team use for real-time business intelligence.

With a range of ITPS-funded Microsoft certifications under his belt, he works hard to develop his career at ITPS, taking an active part in industry peer groups, and self-development in line with the targets agreed at his regular appraisals.

Supporting a good work-life culture is important, and Josh’s needs are met through a variety of benefits, including working from home which allows him and his partner to be a one-car, dog-owning household.

He also takes full advantage of the popular benefits and rewards platform Perkbox; and other free welfare benefits that our people tell us make ITPS such a great place to work.

“It’s good to feel ITPS has my back when it comes to development and support,” Josh said. “I’ve got a personal training plan that supports my career goals, plus guidance and mentoring from more experienced colleagues. There’s a real team culture here, and a friendly, inclusive environment where I can contribute ideas, talk things through and get help if I need it.”
