Relocation secures bright future for Steelcraft

Bold plans are underway for a Durham metalwork and fabrication company to unlock its full potential following the acquisition in August 2022.

The acquisition of Steelcraft (NE) Ltd by the Silvanito group has secured the future of the business and its 27-strong workforce and turnover is expected to increase considerably as it puts in place ambitious growth targets.

With an initial £0.4m injection, the company has also relocated to a newly refurbished facility at Tanfield Lea South Industrial Estate. Measuring 16,500 square feet, the premises more than doubles the size of the production facilities and offers considerable and impressive improvement to the working environment.

Steelcraft has built a solid reputation for manufacturing high quality, bespoke architectural metalwork since it was established over 30 years ago.

With significant local public sector clients, and private developers such as Taylor Wimpey, Keepmoat Homes, The Esh Group, Vistry, and Engie, the business has developed a strong core brand.

Steelcraft is also manufacturing and supplying stock and bespoke lines through its e-commerce brand FORJJ.

The acquisition took place when Steelcraft called in administrators last year, following difficult trading conditions and a reduction in turnover during the pandemic.

Louise Walker, newly appointed Managing Director at Steelcraft and Divisional CEO of Silvanito Holdings, said: “The business had been trading through difficult times for a few years and, while the operation was no longer viable in its current corporate form, the team had remained loyal to the company.

“It’s not very often we come across such an impressive core business and workforce, it is a perfect fit for our portfolio and, as our first investment in the North East, we have put in place everything necessary to focus on maintaining high standards and pushing for growth.

“We’re extremely pleased with the team’s professionalism, commitment, and enthusiasm; they have grabbed this opportunity with both hands to get back on their feet and secure a profitable future. We have also invested in strengthening the management team to ensure solid foundations as we move forward.

“There is huge potential to expand the online FORJJ business, increase product lines, and build both our customer and supplier bases throughout the UK.”

As General Manager, Matthew Rodgers continues to run Steelcraft on a day-to-day basis. He said: “I am delighted Silvanito recognised the incredible potential of the business and the loyalty of our skilled workforce. It’s heartening to know that the company we’ve built over so many years has a bright and secure future, and we’re all excited and proud to play our part in helping it reach its full potential once again.

“We are thrilled to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, benefitting from group support and resources whilst being able to offer extended products and services to our customers.” The portfolio includes SHS Products, QIC Trims, Amber Valley Stone and Heywood Williams Architectural.

Steelcraft (NE) Limited is located at Unit 5, Alderman Wood Road, Tanfield South Industrial Estate, Tanfield Lea, Co. Durham DH9 9XF. The FORJJ website can be accessed at: https://www.forjj.co.uk/
