Teeing up business for T Levels
New College Durham has already established itself as one of the best providers of T-Level qualifications in the region since they were launched in 2020.
Last summer, its T-Level students achieved an impressive 100 percent pass rate in all subjects.
T-levels offer 16 to 19-year-olds a skills-focused route into either employment, higher technical apprenticeships, or university.
They are a unique mixture of classroom learning and industry placement.
One T-level is the equivalent of three A-levels, meaning T-level students can go on to work, further training, or degree level study.
The two-year, industry focused courses were developed in collaboration with businesses to ensure they provide students with the skills employers want.
This gives students a valuable opportunity to put their learning into practice, develop their technical skills and become more employable.
Students spend a minimum of 45 days with an external employer in a role directly relevant to their course.
Current T-Level subjects include automotive, business, early years, science, engineering, digital, construction and healthcare.
Benefits for business of having an industry placement student include:
- developing existing staff’s mentoring and management skills
- improving the recruitment pipeline for your business
- giving opportunities to young people from a wide range of backgrounds, leading to a more diverse workforce
- bringing in new and imaginative ideas
- building partnerships with local training providers
