Two appointments with the Co-op supported by Skills 4 Work
Two young adults join The Co-op supported by Skills 4 Work Gateshead Ltd.
The appointments were made through the Co-op’s preferred agency provider Challenge TRG. The agency has worked with the Co-op’s for several years and provide the link for many people to become permanent staff.
They will be working from the Co-op’s Food Supply Chain Logistics warehouse at Drum Industrial Estate, taking on roles in office administration and waste management.
Sean and Andrew, both from Gateshead, began their roles with The Co-op after receiving support from Skills 4 Work, a charity dedicated to helping young adults make the challenging transition from education to the workplace.
Sean, who will work in office administration, is joining The Co-op as his second part-time job, alongside his existing part-time role at a charity. Andrew, who is autistic, will be responsible for tasks in the recycling and waste management department.
Skills 4 Work Ltd has a 10-year track record of successfully placing young adults with a variety of disabilities or mental health conditions into paid employment. To date, the charity has successfully placed 82 young people with around 20 organisations.
Tracey Wallace, Founder of Skills 4 Work, commented: “There are long-standing challenges in providing opportunities for young people as they transition from education into employment. Many young people are disillusioned and may struggle with low confidence. We work closely with them, helping to refine their CVs, build their confidence, and prepare them for the workforce via a weekly programme of support.
“We also match each young adult with the right company and ensure that reasonable adjustments are made to help them cope and thrive in their roles. By working with small groups, we provide the focused attention and tailored support they need to succeed.”
In addition to their employment services, Skills 4 Work Ltd organises regular gardening and walking groups, offering young adults the chance to work on personal issues in an informal environment while learning new skills. The charity also operates a Community Café that hosts wellbeing activities in a safe, respectful, and welcoming setting.
Tracey concluded: “I know both Sean and Andrew will make valuable contributions in their new roles, and I look forward to seeing them develop and thrive in their positions.
“We are also very grateful for the support of the business community and the Co-op is a brilliant example of a local employer supporting our young people to progress and succeed.”
